Meet the Hyptec S600, a large coupe-SUV for China

GAC unveiled a new coupe-like crossover SUV called the Hyptec S600 at the Beijing Show last week. It is already available for preordering in hybrid and all-electric flavors, although the prices are still pending.

On the outside, the model looks barely different from its predecessor, the Hyptec HT. It has stacked headlights, mildly reshaped bumpers and sporty outlines all around. It comes in at 5,015 mm long, 1,933 mm wide and 1,700 mm tall with 2,936 mm between the axles. The standard wheels are 20 inches large.

A look inside reveals a traditional round steering wheel, a 10.25-inch digital dashboard and a large 17.3-inch infotainment display. Paying extra will get you things like heated, ventilated and massaged seats, but you don’t have to pay extra for footrests – those are automatically included for all seats except the driver’s.

In its priciest form, the SUV takes advantage of a heads-up display, 22 audio speakers, a fridge built into the transmission tunnel and a wireless charging pad. Air suspension and an ADAS package underpinned by a LiDAR are also listed as available.

As a range-extender hybrid, the new Hyptec S600 utilizes a 1.5-liter petrol turbo engine to produce power for a single electric motor. Its output remains to be announced. The EV variant comes equipped with a single 340-PS (335-hp/ 250-kW) motor at the rear axle or two motors combining their outputs for 503 PS (496 hp / 370 kW) at all four wheels. Sprinting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) only takes 4.3 seconds in this dual-motor version.

The older Hyptec HT is still available starting from 189,900 Chinese Yuan, which currently corresponds to $27,770.
