HWA, a motorsports company based in Affalterbach, Germany, is planning to bring back the legendary Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II from the 1990s. A modern interpretation of the sporty sedan is expected to arrive in 2025 offering more comfort, technology and speed than its predecessor. You’ll need to put aside €714,000 to buy one, though.
To confirm its intentions, the company has shared a number of sketches and a 3D rendering of the vehicle. The similarity with the Evo II is unmistakable.
Famous 3D artist and car enthusiast Kyzyl Saleem has made the announcement simultaneously with the HWA. He pointed out that it was a joint effort based on his own renderings posted last spring (images no. 6–10 in the gallery below). The modifications proposed include flared fenders, a more aggressive-looking front bumper and original lights all around.
There are still no technical details, but the company says it plans to use the W201 chassis as a starting point. The likely reason is that sourcing a real 190E homologation special is nearly impossible – they are valued as collectibles and can cost well into the hundreds of thousands USD. This is not to say that HWA plans to charge any less, considering the €714k estimation quoted above.
Mercedes-Benz has produced a total of 502 units of its 2.5-16 Evo II model (see video). The restomod series will be capped at 100 units.
