Next-gen Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe debuts on official terms

The SUV-shaped Mercedes-Benz GLC premieres this summer, and its coupe-like counterpart took its time to arrive. It is here now with barely any changes to point out, and is still positioned as the main rival of the BMW X4 and the Audi Q5 Sportback. The sales in Europe are slated to begin in July.

Compared to the previous Coupe version, the new one has 15 mm (0.6 in) of extra wheelbase and 32 mm (1.3 in) of added body length. More importantly, its drag ratio has dropped to a sleek 0.27 (formerly 0.30).

By default, the crossover SUV comes outfitted with a styling package called Avantgarde Line, which adds chrome trim parts all around. You can throw in some extra money to get the decidedly sportier-looking AMG Line pack.

The interior corresponds to that of the squarish GLC SUV in both layout and design. There is a 12.3-inch digital dashboard and an 11.9-inch infotainment tablet in the base trim level.

The economy engine lineup consists of two-liter diesel and petrol four-pots rated from 197 to 269 PS (194–265 hp; 145–198 kW, respectively). All are hybridized, but the small electric motor only contributes its 23 PS (23 hp / 17 kW) and 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) of torque for a few seconds of fast acceleration, staying idle most of the remaining time

There are also PHEVs on offer as well, the most powerful of which makes 381 PS (376 hp / 280 kW) and needs 5.6 seconds for a sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph). The all-electric driving range varies between the different specs, but inevitably lands somewhere between 113 and 119 kilometers (70–74 miles).
