Video: Road-legal Mini Cooper runs with a Kawasaki bike engine in the cabin

This would not be the first time Mini car owners equipped their urban compacts with RPM-heavy motorbike engines. We have seen a few such projects over the past decade, and the catch most often was that the car lost its street-legal status after the swap. This one is a remarkable exception, however.

Adam from AMT Machine Shops, Vancouver, is responsible for the job. He fitted his Mini Cooper with extremely flared fenders, a massive rear spoiler and an adjustable spoiler lip. The main surprise lies concealed under the rear hood, where a Kawasaki Ninja motor revs up to insane 13,000 RPM.

Okay, so that “concealed” bit is not entirely accurate. In fact, a part of the engine had to be put inside the cabin and the fuel tank moved over to the front end. You see, the Cooper is a tightly packed vehicle as is, and the Ninja is a monster of a bike, so transplanting one for the other can be challenging.

Further interesting features include racing wheels and tires, sports seats and steering wheel, a hydraulic handbrake for drift stunts, safety bars, and even a Kawasaki dashboard. You will still be better off just watching the video and seeing this crazy-but-fun build by yourself, though.
