Study finds Japanese cars by far the best in terms of mileage-to-price

A team of experts from iSeeCars has studied over 180 million used vehicles and compared their total use with their selling price when new. The top 10 lines in the ranking were all claimed by Japanese brands.

Mitsubishi Mirage won the gold award with an average mileage of 172,784 miles per car (that’s over 278,000 kilometers). With a new price of $18,991, a Mirage gets you 10,000 miles (16,000 km) for $1,099.

Toyota Corolla won silver with $1,374 per ten thousand miles, and Subaru Impreza claimed bronze with $1,409. The rest of the top-10 list was claimed by Honda Accord and Civic, Toyota Camry, Nissan Versa, Honda CR-V, Mazda3, and Toyota Prius.
The study also highlighted the Honda CR-V as the most actively used car around, with an average mileage of 219,509 miles (353,200 kilometers).

Interestingly enough, the long list of the world’s 25 best vehicles in terms of mileage-to-price includes as many as 7 Toyota models, 4 each of Subaru and Honda, but only one Mitsubishi, which nonetheless sits at the very top of the rating.

In this long list, only five cars are not produced by a Japanese brand. These are Volkswagen Jetta, Chevrolet Malibu, Hyundai Elantra, Ford Escape, and Hyundai Tucson.
