This 25-year-old Mitsubishi Pajero is a three-door Evolution spec (see video) issued in a production run of around 2,500 units to homologate the 1998 Dakar Rally vehicle. It is on sale now with the bidding already at $41,000, largely because only one in five such cars came equipped with a manual transmission.
Compared to the standard Pajero of the time, the Evo featured a fully independent suspension and drew power from a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 280 PS (276 hp / 206 kW). The mill drove all four wheels through a transfer case.
It also received wider wheel arches, 16-inch wheels, a special rear spoiler and a hood air intake to distinguish it from the stock model. Recaro seats are the main highlight inside.
This particular example was made for Japan, but imported into the United States earlier this year. The bidding could be livelier if it were not for the stated mileage of 209,000 km (130,000 miles). Making matters worse for purists is the fact that neither the steering wheel nor the multimedia system are stock. Then again, the seller claims both can be replaced with OEM counterparts.
