The oddly endearing Mitsuoka M55 – a Japanese car with 70s-era American muscle car looks but a Honda Civic chassis under the new bodywork – will enjoy an extended production run due to overwhelming demand.
The niche automaker announced making 100 “Zero Edition” units of the M55 last fall. It has since received several times as many preorders, so a decision was reached to produce another 250 cars in a second batch called “1st Edition”.
For their ¥7,600,000 or more, customers get a stylish Japanese ride with mild U.S. aesthetics and a stock Civic powertrain under the hood. Opting for a 1.5T engine with 182 PS (180 hp / 134 kW) gets you manual gearbox, but you can choose a hybrid Civic e:HEV instead to save on gas.
