The Tata H2X CUV just might become a bestseller

Indian car manufacturer Tata has debuted its H2X crossover/SUV concept at the ongoing Geneva show in Switzerland. The company says the car will arrive in dealerships in India priced at roughly U.S. $8,600. To put things into perspective, even the cheapest trim version of the Renault Duster costs $11,500 there. This just might mean that the new crossover will become a real bestseller when it ships. The fact that company CEO Ratan Tata, who seldom appears before the media, held the Geneva premiere himself, serves to strengthen that impression.

The micro-CUV measures 3,840 mm (12.6 ft.) long, 1,822 mm (6 ft.) wide and 1,635 mm (5.35 ft.) tall. Its outer design looks similar to that of the mass-issue Tata Harrier SUV. It is based on the ALFA chassis which supports 4WD by default, but the manufacturer has made it clear that 4WD will never be available for the model, whether in base or as a paid option.

Curiously enough, the five-seat car features a fighter jet-style steering wheel and round air deflectors that work in a manner similar to that of Dyson fans. There is also a dual display serving as an instrument panel and a multimedia careen.

Regardless of the trim version, the Tata H2X will always ship with a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated gas engine. Its final product name hasn’t been decided upon yet, but rumors suggest it will be called “Tata Hornbill” and ship in the summer of 2020.
