Aston Martin announces ultra-rare DBS 59 series to celebrate 1959 Le Mans race success

Aston Martin has officially introduced the DBS 59, a strictly limited series of sports cars whose debut commemorates the two victories the British luxury car marque scored in the 24 Hours of Le Mans sixty years ago. The production batch will consist of 24 vehicles, and if you need to ask about the price, chances are you are not going to be able to afford it.

Back in 1959, piloting the Aston Martin DBR1, racing drivers Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby were the first to cross the finish line, shortly followed by their teammates Paul Frère and Maurice Trintignant hurrying to claim the silver. The triumphant performance of sixty years ago has forever marked an important milestone in the history of the company.

The Aston Martin DBS 59 series uses the range-topping Superleggera chassis and comes painted green with bronze accents. It rides on 21-inch wheels sporting a Y-shaped spoke pattern and sports a black carbon roof, a rear spoiler bearing the chassis number of the legendary DBR1, and a few other exterior highlights.

The engine bay holds the familiar 5.2-liter turbo V12 engine rated at 725 hp (541 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lbft) of torque. The unit comes partnered with an eight-speed automatic transmission and enables the DBS 59 to sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in a trifling 3.4 seconds. The car tops out just below 340 km/h (211 mph).
