New VW Transporter police van gives off an unpleasant Spartan vibe

Volkswagen AG has introduced a new version of its Transporter van intended for police use. The vehicle sports the proper paint scheme, a LED light bar on the roof, rotating flashers, strobe lights, a powerful 100W alarm, and a megaphone.

There is a detention cell inside for transporting criminals and suspects, which comes across as ill-equipped, or rather not equipped at all. There are no seats inside, not even cheap plastic ones. The cell spans the entire width of the van and comes separated from the rest of it by iron bars.

Moving forward, there are two seats for the escorting officers. These do not look particularly comfortable, either. It seems like the driver and the front passenger are the only ones entitled to such luxuries as seat adjustments and heating...
