Ford EcoSport uses floor mats made from recycled plastic bottles

U.S. car giant Ford Motors has long been supporting the movement for environment preservation against non-biodegradable plastic waste. Among other things, the company ships its EcoSport SUV line with floor mats made from recycled plastic bottles.

470 bottles are needed to produce a single mat. Since 2012, the company has processed over 650,000,000 of 0.5-liter (16-oz) bottles and cans. The total weight of the processed plastic material amounted to 8,000,000 tonnes (8,818,490 short/US tons). Put next to each other in a row, you could encircle the Earth twice with this number of bottles.

That said, Ford has been using recycled materials for over 20 years now, starting with the Mondeo family car series in 1999. The company puts 1.2 billion bottles to better use every year.
