Geely Boyue facelift brings along extensive changes, new name

The Geely Boyue, a Chinese crossover/SUV also known as the Geely Atlas in some countries, has gone through a major facelift after four years on the market. Apparently, Geely didn’t spare any expenses on the update, which it called the ‘Boyue Pro’ to highlight the differences from its predecessor.

The front end has been completely restyled. It now sports a bulky radiator grille, a muscular hood cover, and LED headlights that come as a standard feature in all trim versions. At the rear, redesigned items include the bumper and the tailgate, and the brake lights now sport a 3D-like pattern.

The scope of interior changes is no less impressive. The center console and the dashboard have been redone from scratch, there is a fixed-position joystick acting as the gear selector, the steering wheel is slightly smaller than before, and the digital dashboard is considerably larger. The manufacturer claims the car also features stylish contour lighting, better trim materials, and a next-generation multimedia system with better support for modern smartphones and XWatch smart watches.

Finally yet no less importantly, customers now have access to a wider range of engines and transmissions. The old 2.0-liter gasoline engine with 141 hp (105 kW) is no longer available. Instead, the company offers a new 1.5-liter turbo-three Volvo unit. In fact, you may already be familiar with this particular engine thanks to the latest releases by Geely and Lynk & Co, as well as the entry-level Volvo XC40. Its power rating remains unannounced so far, but the company does mention it is only available with a six-speed manual transmission.

The 1.8-liter turbo-four engine has been reworked to produce 300 Newton-meters (221 pound-feet) of torque instead of the usual 285 Nm (210 lb×ft). Its power remained unchanged at 184 hp (137 kW). While it was previously available with a six-speed automatic transmission, it now ships exclusively with a seven-speed DCT.

The Geely Boyue Pro will make it to the domestic market in the fall of 2019.
