De Tomaso P72 enjoys GFoS 2019 premiere, will emerge in a batch of 72

De Tomaso P72, a supercar series created to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the now-defunct Italian car brand, has been officially revealed at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK.

China-based holding Consolidated Ideal TeamVenture purchased the rights for the brand name five years ago. The same group also holds the ‘Apollo Automobil’ (Gumpert) marque.

Little is known about the new P72 even after the reveal event. We are told that the supercar is still under development by the same team that created the original Apollo Intensa Emozione. The latter hypercar had a carbon-fiber chassis and came powered by a naturally aspirated 6.3 V12 with 780 hp (582 kW) under its command. It sprinted 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.7 seconds and didn’t max out until 333 km/h (207 mph).

A total of 72 De Tomaso P72s will be produced and sold at €750,000 apiece. Pre-orders are already open.

On a historical note, Alejandro de Tomaso founded the Italian automobile brand in 1959. The company primarily specialized in building racecars, sports car (including the famous Pantera) and custom chasses for Formula One teams. The production halted in 2004, and the brand officially ceased to exist eight years after that.
