Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 Shooting Brake comes out with large trunk, latest tech

It hasn’t even been two weeks since Mercedes-AMG revealed the new A 45 hatchback and CLA 45 sedan/saloon, but the company already has another premiere to make. Enter the CLA 45 Shooting Brake!

Predictably enough, the car ended up with the 2.0-liter Mercedes M130 turbo-four, an 8-gear DCT, and the AMG Performance 4Matic+ system complete with the on-demand AWD coupler for the rear axle and the Drift mode.

Just like its sedan and hatchback cousins, the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 Shooting Brake ships in two different versions. The standard one packs 387 horsepower (289 kilowatts) and 480 Newton-meters (354 pound-feet) of torque. In contrast, the S version has 421 hp (314 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) at its disposal. The S also does the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in four seconds flat, while the normal version lags one-tenth of a second behind. The top going speed can be 250 or 270 km/h (155 or 168 mph, depending on your chosen configuration).

Another good news for lovers of fast yet practical cars: the Shooting Brake S offers the same 505 liters (17.8 cubic feet) of trunk volume as its less sporty siblings.

The car additionally benefits from an aluminum guard plate and tie rods located at the bottom, meant to improve overall structural rigidity while also protecting the engine. The front wheels take advantage of four-piston brakes (six-piston ones in the S version). Adaptive suspension is available as a paid option.

Sales in Europe are planned for the coming fall, with the prices starting at €65,000.
