Datsun redi-GO gets its second update in six months

Datsun has launched yet another update of its redi-GO hatchback series in India. The changes were limited to the list of standard and available equipment this time around.

The original redi-GO debuted in 2016. The car is based on the CMF-A architecture and bears the most similarity to the Renault Kwid. The first mid-generational refresh was in May 2019, but the company decided to go for another one just three months after that. The reason was disastrous sales dynamics: only 22,556 cars were sold in 2018 (-19% compared to the year before), followed by an even more precipitous -50% drop in the first half of 2019.

Starting now, the compact five-door urban car ships with ABS and EBD, a single driver’s airbag, rear parking sensors, safety belt warning, and speed limit warning. Other than that, it stays identical to the March version. You can opt for a simple multimedia unit and an air conditioner, but that is all.

The engine range is represented by two gasoline three-cylinder engines: a 0.8L one rated at 54 hp (40 kW) and a stronger 1.0L unit capable of 68 hp (51 kW). All cars ship with FWD and five-speed manual transmission, but you may pay extra for a DCT if you order the 1.0L version.

Prices begin at 279,650 Indian Rupees, which is roughly equivalent to $4,050 USD.
