Cusco Racing converts the Toyota C-HR into a high-end rally car

The Cusco Racing team has unveiled its latest creation, a rally variant of the Toyota C-HR SUV complete with a tweaked engine and purpose-built suspension.

During the project, the engineers used the experience they gained while converting the all-wheel-driven Toyota Yaris racecar into a road-legal vehicle. The Yaris and the C-HR turned out to be very similar in terms of tech, although the team still had to redesign the suspension and the differentials from scratch.

The one-off rally vehicle now features a roll cage and Bride bucket seats, and comes powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged TRD-8AR engine linked to a 5-gear sequential transmission. The exact performance specs are unknown, but TRD says this particular engine model delivers up to 293 hp (218 kW) in the Spec.A version and up to 367 hp (274 kW) in the Spec.B version.

The SUV now fully complies with the FIA racing regulations as an AP4-class vehicle. As such, it automatically gains admission to the Japan Super Rally series and the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship.

Cusco Racing does not reveal the financial details, but similar conversions usually cost around U.S. $250,000 to complete.
