2019 Ford Edge update for China brings along new tech

The Ford Edge is available as a five-seat crossover SUV in Europe, USA, Canada and some other markets, but its Chinese version, which debuted in 2017, has seven seats. Now, Ford announced a minor facelift for the model.

The 2019 Ford Edge for China has the exact same wheelbase as the international version (2,850 mm / 9.35 ft.), but sports a different front apron and wheels, as well as a restyled rear end with a longer overhang. At 4,878 mm (16 ft.) long, the car is 99 mm (3.9 inches) longer than its five-seat counterpart.

A look inside the cabin reveals a redesigned dashboard with an analog odometer surrounded by two displays, a gear selector knob, and new niches for storing miscellaneous items. The multimedia now supports voice commands and provides a handy shortcut to climate control functions. The main novelty of the new Ford Edge for China comes in the form of a huge, 12.8-inch, vertical display mounted on the center console.

The car ships with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost V4 rated at 245 hp (183 kW) by default. You may opt for the Ford Edge ST to get a different front grille and bumpers, as well as an upgrade to a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 with 322 hp (240 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. The 6-G automatic transmission becomes history with the new Edge lineup based completely on the new 8-G automatic.

Prices start from the equivalent of U.S. $34,000 in China. Availability is expected in late summer.
