Lexus schedules its first-ever EV for Tokyo show debut in October

The first all-electric vehicle on the Lexus lineup will be officially introduced during the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon in October. According to Koji Sato, VP of the luxury marque, it is going to be a futuristic-looking urban hatchback.

Rumor has it the company sourced its inspiration from the LF-SA Concept, which is depicted here. It is a car spanning only 3.4 m (11.15 ft.) long, with a 2+2 seat layout and a holographic display inside.

Little else is known about the upcoming EV right now. Lexus CEO said in an earlier interview that technological perfection would be the leitmotif of the entire project. He added that the car would take advantage of a breakthrough multimedia system, which would take up space to the left and to the right of the steering wheel.

The final exterior design of the car remains to be approved, but Lexus Design Director Koichi Suga promised that the EV would keep the traditional radiator grille at the front end, albeit reimagined in a futuristic way.
