Mercedes-Benz says the S-Class will remain at the automotive front line

During the continuing Frankfurt Motor Show 2019, Mercedes-Benz has shared some valuable insight into the future of its S-Class lineup.

Apparently, the company wants to keep its flagship sedan/saloon series at the spearhead of automotive tech. For one thing, the new S-Class will be the world’s first mass-produced vehicle to take advantage of a Level 3 autonomous driving system.

On the other hand, the German carmaker does not feel like following in the footsteps of Jaguar, which has made its upcoming XJ model all-electric. The S-Class will keep relying on gasoline engines in the foreseeable future, while the all-new Mercedes-Benz EQS will fill the ‘EV’ niche in the range.

The car, which has repeatedly been spotted outside (see the photos and the video), will celebrate its international reveal next year. It will most likely ship in the ‘long-wheelbase sedan’ variant only and drop the coupe and convertible versions to make room for the new AMG GT and SL.
