The mysterious new Mercedes-Benz EQB turns out to be a GLB with battery

Previously, whenever car spotters spied the all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQB during road tests, the car used the raised B-Class compact van chassis. Now, it has finally received its own body design – if you are prepared to call slightly modified GLB-Class ‘its own’.

The two cars will likely be identical in terms of dimensions: 4,634 mm (15.2 feet) long with a wheelbase spanning 2,829 mm (9.28 feet). The EV will get its own front grille (fake, obviously) and different bumpers. It will also get rid of the tailpipes (none needed), but receive a charging socket on the right side (which is a bit inconsistent, since the gas-powered GLB-Class has its fuel door on the left).

It is rumored that the Mercedes-Benz EQB will ship with in battery sizes 0 60 and 110 kWh, which should be enough for 400 and 600 kilometers (250 – 375 miles, respectively). It will allegedly get dual electric motors (one per axle) rated at 272 hp (203 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. At least, this is what the EQA Concept debuted with some time ago. Then again, of course, the specs may end up being entirely different.

We will not know until the SUV premieres in 2020. Right now, the Mercedes-Benz electric lineup consists of the EQC crossover and the EQV minivan. A hatchback called EQA and a large liftback called EQS will be joining it in 2020.
