Four unusual Daihatsu concepts line up before Tokyo IMS premiere

Daihatsu will be attending the 2019 International Motor Show in Tokyo, Japan with four concept cars having funny-sounding names.

The WaiWai hybrid MPV seems the most realistic of the bunch. 4,200 mm (13.78 feet) long, it has three seat rows for a total of six people, two large openings in the roof, and a completely flat floor. All seats can be folded to create a sleeping area.

The WakuWaku is a hybrid crossover SUV with a quasi-off-road body kit and a roof panel that lifts to reveal an additional luggage area. It measures only 3,395 mm (11.14 feet) long and has only two seats – but you can always flip back an additional seat in the trunk area as an emergency measure.

The cute delivery truck is called TsumuTsumu. Also 3,395 mm (11.14 ft.) long, it sports a single cab for two. The door on the driver’s side folds up and slides back, while the twin doors on the passenger’s side slide to the sides. It is also a hybrid.

In contrast, the IcoIco is all-electric, fully autonomous and the most futuristic of the four. With the same length as the above two, it is nearly two meters (6.6 ft.) tall and offers accommodation for four (you can rotate the front seats to face the other two or fold them back altogether). The doors slide open to the sides, and a wheelchair ramp is provided. Perhaps the single most special feature is the wheeled robot Nipote, who its manufacturer claims can entertain the passengers with small talk.

None of the concept cars will make it into mass production in the foreseeable future.
