3rd-gen Isuzu D-Max debuts with better off-road specs & safety

Isuzu has unveiled the third generation of its D-Max pickup truck. The changes include new looks, new equipment, comfort improvements, and more safety aids. Let us delve into details.

The 2020 D-Max comes based on the Isizu Dynamic Drive platform and packs a four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine rated at 150 hp (112 kW). There is another version available as well: the old 3.0-liter diesel unit has been substantially improved with a new turbine charger and injection, resulting in 190 hp (142 kW) and 450 Nm (336 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission choices are the same as before: you can either pick the Aisin auto or go with the proprietary manual design. The AWD system is still there and now boasts an electronic rear diff lock. Traversable water height is now 80 cm (2.6 feet), up 20 cm (0.6 ft.) from before.

Cabin improvements include the 9-inch multimedia screen (albeit restricted to the more expensive trims), two-zone climate control, and steering column adjustment (steering wheel height and offset). The top trims come with adaptive LED headlights, six airbags, and a blind zone monitoring system.

Sales will first launch in Thailand, with the most basic version priced at 510,000 Thai Baht ($16,750 USD). This implies 16-inch pressed wheels, stick shift and 150 hp (112 kW) under the hood.

The 2020 Isuzu D-Max will reach other markets next summer.
