Taylor Aerocar is a vintage flying car worth $1M

Built by Moulton ‘Molt’ Taylor in the USA in the distant 1949, the vehicle will go under the hammer in the upcoming January, with its current owner hoping to get up to 1,000,000 USD for it.

Moulton Taylor has built five such Aerocars in total. He has spent many years looking for investors and other means of funding for his project, intending to launch the model into production (approx. 500 units / year). Despite his best efforts, the project just didn’t take off.

The auction house reckons that getting 1,000,000 USD out of the deal is possible due to the good technical condition of the car-plane. The Taylor Aerocar has been driven 24,500 kilometers (15,223) miles on land and flown for 780 hours total. It comes powered by a 5.2-liter aviation-spec Lycoming engine. The properties of the engine make it suitable for flying up to 300 miles (483 kilometers) at roughly 100 mph (160 km/h). The land speed is capped at 100 km/h (62 mph) due to the bulky trailer attachment with the folded wings stored inside (see the gallery).
