C8 Corvette wins North American Car of the Year award

The NACTOY team has held a special event in Detroit to announce the most loved passenger car on the North American continent in 2019. The prize went to the 8th-gen Chevrolet Corvette.

This is the third time the sports car claims the prestigious title, the first two having been in 1998 and 2014.

In its eighth iteration, the Corvette becomes a mid-engine sports car for the first time in its history. It comes packing a 6.2-liter V8 turbocharged to deliver 502 hp (374 kW) along with 637 Nm (470 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels. The eight-speed transmission is capable of preselection, which enables the car to zap from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in three seconds flat and max out north of 310 km/h (192 mph).

Prices in the USA start from $59,900.

On a side note, the Kia Telluride won the Best SUV award, while the Jeep Gladiator claimed the prize as the Best Pickup Truck.
