Toyota reveals the RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid for Europe

Following the international premiere of the RAV4 Prime several months ago, the Japanese manufacturer has taken the wraps off a PHEV version of its SUV meant for Europe.

The new Toyota RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid, which was present for everyone to see at the recently concluded 2020 European Motor Show Brussels, comes based on the company’s own GA-K architecture. It features an intelligent all-wheel drive system called AWD-i and packs a lithium-ion battery fated for 65 kilometers (40 miles) of range. Compared to the standard RAV4, it boasts a different radiator grille design, a new rear diffuser, and a glossy front bumper insert.

The cabin makes use of new trim materials, redesigned seats with enhanced lateral support, a panoramic glass roof, and a high-end multimedia system with a HUD and smartphone support.

The PHEV comes powered by a revision of the old 2.5-liter gasoline engine and a couple electric motors mounted on the rear axle. The cumulative output amounts to 306 hp (228 kW), which enables the SUV to sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.2 seconds.

The Toyota RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid will hit the showrooms closer to the summer.
