Chevrolet Astro fans petition to resurrect the MPV

Van Life has posted an online petition asking General Motors to resume production of the popular Chevrolet Astro minivan that came out in 1985 through 2005 and found 3.2 million buyers. More than 300 people signed it at the time of this writing.

Campervan fans claim that the Astro is a perfect fit for a motorhome conversion: simple, reliable, with a spacious interior and optional AWD. Chevrolet has no vans fitting this description in stock right now, so introducing one could be profitable.

The company itself sees little financial reason to resurrect the Astro, though. Even the Chevrolet Express, which starts at U.S. $34,900 domestically, loses popularity with 81,239 units sold in 2018 and 77,457 in 2019.

This is not the first emotional petition of this kind, of course. Late last year, Ford Mustang aficionado Jimmy Dinsmore demanded that the company remove the Mustang logo off its newest electric SUV, the Mach-E.
