Hyundai Kona ascends the Tibet

The Guinness Book of Records has officially recognized the recent achievement of the all-electric Hyundai Kona, which reached the highest spot of the Tibetan Mountains accessible to EVs.

The Sawula Pass of Tibet rises 5,731 meters (18,803 feet) above sea level and is continually exposed to strong cold winds and snow gusts. The driver had to overcome ‘extremely challenging’ obstacles in order to get to the top of the pass, which included driving on slippery ice. However, in the end, the crew reported that the trip had succeeded without incidents.

Before setting the Guinness record, Hyundai’s much-praised SUV ascended to the base cap of Everest (5,150 meters / 16,896 feet above sea level).
