1 out of 5 Zagato Mostro Coupés goes up on sale for nearly €1M

An auction will be held in Paris, France on February 6, 2020 dedicated to the ultra-rare Zagato Mostro Coupé. The owner expects to get between €600,000 and €900,000 out of the deal.

Zagato has only ever produced five such sports cars to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Maserati brand. Their styling pays homage to the iconic Maserati 450S Coupe Zagato created in a single copy in 1957 and nicknamed Il Mostro (‘Monster’) for its peerless engine power at the time.

The new Mostro boasts a carbon-fiber monocoque cabin, a stainless-steel cockpit frame, and a rear subframe holding the fuel tank, the exhaust system and the rear axle suspension complete with push rods.

A 4.7-liter V8 unit borrowed from the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale series occupies the engine bay. Its performance rating remains unannounced, but likely sits close to the standard 460 hp (343 kW). The transmission is six-speed semi-automatic.

Sterling Moss himself ordered the creation of the unique Maserati 450S Coupe Zagato to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1957. The design department designed it for maximum speeds reaching 200 miles per hour (320+ km/h). In creating the new Mostro, Zagato tried to mimic the aerodynamics of its legendary predecessor.

The current owner of the exotic ride ordered it directly from Zagato and never registered it for road use.
