Espied: Nissan testing the new Pathfinder

The current generation of the Nissan Pathfinder debuted in 2013 and received its facelift three years ago (see video). Now, a test mule of the next generation was spotted on a public road.

The new generation might emerge later this year, although this is not official. The test mule comes wrapped in thick camo and likely wears fake bodywork over a new chassis, so making conclusions about the appearance of the new Pathfinder would be premature at best. That said, we wouldn’t expect any major changes in the current design.

The powertrain and tech will likely also remain the same, more or less. The SUV series started with a body-on-frame design, but switched to the regular crossover design with the 2013 generation. Chances are good that the upcoming update will keep the CVT, AWD and chassis intact; engine availability may change, but once again, we do not have any predictions to make in this respect.

The next-gen Nissan Pathfinder may premiere sometime in mid-2020 if the tests go smoothly.
