2021 SsangYong Rexton likely underway to Geneva reveal

Judging by these spy pics made in northern Europe, the second generation of the SsangYong Rexton SUV will be getting a facelift later in the year. In fact, we would expect it to be present at the Geneva IMS in March.

The second-gen Rexton, which came out in 2017, is still wrapped in camo, but its exterior and specs are fairly predictable. Among other things, LED headlights should become standard for the SUV, which can currently have bi-Xenon ones as a paid option. Overall, the exterior design should be very close to that of the fourth-gen Korando and the facelifted Tivoli.

The car measures 4,850 millimeters (15.91 ft.) long and sports 2,865 mm (9.4 ft.) of wheelbase in both five- and seven-seater modifications. The only available engine is a 2.2-liter turbo diesel that comes rated at 187 hp (139 kW) and 422 Nm (311 lb-ft) on its domestic market of South Korea. The Europe spec clamps down on emissions, resulting in a slight drop to 181 hp (135 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft). In Korea, the Mercedes-Benz 7G-Tronic is the only transmission on offer, whereas customers in Europe may opt for six-speed manual. The drive choices include RWD and on-demand AWD.

On a side note, SsangYong promised us a brand-new powertrain for the Rexton long ago – specifically, a 2.0-liter turbo-four mill good for 225 hp (168 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. The unit was announced as compatible with the six-speed Aisin auto transmission. There is still no release timeframe for that one, though.

In all likelihood, we will be seeing the 2021 SsangYong Rexton at a motor show this spring.
