VW lifts the veil over its newest coupe/SUV for Latin America

Following the first teaser of the crossover SUV Nivus (see video), Volkswagen has posted a blurry pic of the car’s exterior.

The low resolution may not allow us to pick out individual details, but the VW T-Cross-like front end and the slanted roof are both easy to discern.

The manufacturer points out that the soft-roader primarily targets Latin American countries and will be assembled in Brazil. The launch should take place later this spring, and the first shipments should be made before the end of the year. In 2021, the Nivus will arrive in Europe.

Based on the T-Ross chassis, the VW Nivus uses a single turbocharged engine with one liter of displacement room and 115 hp (86 kW) when partnered with a manual transmission. Opt for a DSG box instead, and the effective output will rise to 130 hp (97 kW). The drive will stay on the front axle no matter what, though.

The cabin layout will generally follow that of the T-Cross, but the Nivus will introduce the new twin-screen infotainment system known as VW Play.

It remains unaddressed whether Volkswagen will keep the name ‘Nivus’ for the Europe version or rename it to something else.
