Gunther Werks revives another Porsche 911 (993)

Gunther Werks announced the “400R” series of 25 classical Porsche 911 (993) restomods around three years ago, and the latest example is also arguably the greatest.

The team has spent multiple thousand hours refurbishing and repairing the sports car, but the result turned out astonishing in terms of sheer quality of execution and attention to detail. Gunther itself said it was particularly proud of this one, and that it endeavored to imagine how the 993 Series would have looked today had Porsche never discontinued it 25 years ago.

Aside from the elegant body and kit, the old coupe had its engine swapped out for a four-liter Rothsport Racing mill capable of sending up to 400 hp (298 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. A custom exhaust system lent it an impressively deep sound profile, while a hydraulic suspension lift and coilovers enabled quick ride height adjustment.

The sense of luxury carries over into the cabin, which houses a welded roll cage, carbon fiber bucket seats, and opulent leather trim in orange and green.

The project cost U.S. $500,000 to carry out, plus the cost of the original vehicle.
