Check out what looks like the craziest Toyota Corolla in the world

Gone are the glory days of the Toyota Corolla, but some people still experience tender emotions upon looking at the compact urban car. Few, however, go as far as Matias Johansson from Sweden, who put in eight years and 6,500 hours of free time into tuning it.

The man bought his car from an elderly lady back in 2004 and had originally intended to drive it to work. Then he came up with the idea to replace the exhaust system with something more impressive-sounding, and tweak the suspension a bit, and upgrade the brakes, and get a new wheel set, and find some better seats... Well, you should get the idea by now.

The turning point came in 2008, when he had to tear the car down to the last screw to clean it of rust and mold. “Why not swap the engine while I’m at it?” he must have thought. He ended up fitting the Corolla with the legendary Toyota Supra 2JZ mill, putting it in the rear, rather than the front. Naturally, this necessitated a new transmission, as well as extensive modifications to the body and chassis. He had spent several years obtaining the necessary certificates, and finally took the car out on the streets in 2017 with 400 hp (300 kW) driving the rear axle.

The end result may still look like a Corolla in places, but it is actually a new car with Corolla looks. Matias does a bit of everything with it now – causal driving, racing and occasionally attending auto shows.
