Volkswagen registers a new electric car in China

The Volkswagen Tharu will be getting an all-electric modification in China soon. It will be called e-Tharu and enter production in the SAIC/VW joint factory. Let’s see what other details are available.

The battery crossover SUV comes powered by a single electric motor rated at 134 hp (100 kW) and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque. The power storage size is unknown, but the manufacturer promises it up to 315 kilometers (195 miles) of NEDC-rated driving range. A full charging takes 5.5 hours, but you may as well top it up from 30 to 80 percent in 25 minutes.

The exterior of the car is basically identical to that of its gasoline version except for the different front bumper, missing exhaust pipes and e-Tharu badge. The dimensions stay the same at 4,453 mm long, 1,841 mm wide and 1,632 mm tall with 2,680 mm of wheelbase.

The new Volkswagen e-Tharu could very well celebrate its public debut at the Auto China show in Beijing starting on September 26, 2020. Sales will likely start in the final quarter of the year.
