Volkswagen reveals all there is to know about the Golf R

The Volkswagen Golf R is coming to the market with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine worth 320 PS (316 hp / 235 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque. Read on for more specs and details.

The eighth-gen Golf R is marginally more powerful than its predecessor, which maxed out at 300–310 PS and 400 Nm. It can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds and accelerate to 250 km/h (155 mph).

You can tell the Golf 8 R from the older model thanks to the new glossy black diffuser inserts, air intakes with the same finish, 19-inch alloys, a 20mm (0.8”) reduction in ride height, and a blue stripe that appears to cover the headlights and the grille.

Transmission choices are limited to six-speed manual and seven-speed DCT. The AWD system is brand new and boasts torque vectoring, as well as a rear diff lock.

The car has a Drift Mode, but it is illegal to turn it on anywhere outside of a racing circuit. If you do, a warning will pop up asking for a confirmation.

Interior additions include fake carbon details, sports seats wrapped genuine Nappa leather, an R logo on the infotainment welcome screen, and a nice ambient lighting.
