Koenigsegg pretends the SSC Tuatara’s record never happened

The Swedish hypercar maker has just celebrated three years since it set the absolute speed record for production cars worldwide, taking its Agera RS coupe to an average speed of 447.19 km/h on a highway in Nevada.

In its social media posts, the company seems to have deliberately omitted mentioning the SSC Tuatara, an American-made hypercar that reportedly went over 500 kilometers per hour (310+ mph) last month. Sceptics were quick to denounce the record due to the telemetry data displayed in the video being incongruent with the reported by SSC North America.

This fits the description of passive-aggressive behavior: Koenigsegg does not say explicitly that it chooses to ignore the Tuatara’s alleged record, but it effectively does so by continuing to call its Agera RS the fastest production car in the world.

Both hypercars used the same highway strip near Las Vegas for the test run. SSC has already promised to repeat the controversial run with proper observation and measurement from third parties this time around. The Swedish automaker isn’t resting on the laurels, either, promising that its upcoming Jesko Absolut model will beat even the Agera in terms of speed.
