Hyundai Mistra tries on new looks

The second generation of the Hyundai Mistra for China follows in the tracks of the latest Kona, Santa Fe and Creta as far as the exterior design is concerned.

At 4,780 millimeters long, the new Mistra slots in between the Elantra, which is 130 mm shorter, and the Sonata, which is 120 mm longer. The width amounts to 1,815 mm, the height to 1,460 mm and the wheelbase to 2,770 mm. Like the higher Elantra trims, the model sports multi-link suspension at the rear end.

Novelty inside begins with a digital dash display, a touch-sensitive climate control panel and a button-based transmission interface. Panoramic sunroof, power front seats and leather upholstery are listed under options.

The car clings to its old 1.8-liter non-turbo engine rated at 143 PS (141 hp / 105 kW), but trades automatic transmission for a CVT. The old 1.6-liter turbo retires, replaced by a new 1.5-liter one rated at 170 PS (168 hp / 125 kW) that uses the same 7-speed DCT.

Sales in China should begin in the first quarter of 2021, and the company has no plans to offer the model outside of its domestic market.
