VW ID.1 & ID.2 coming to replace the up! & Polo

Volkswagen AG intends to expand its EV offer by launching affordable €20,000+ compact and subcompact electric cars that will eventually phase out the up! and Polo low-displacement models in Europe.

The German automaker will reportedly enlist the help of its Chinese partners to minimize costs.

While not officially confirmed yet, early reports claim that the subcompact-sized ID.1 is coming to replace the up!, and the slightly larger ID.2 is destined to make the gas-powered Polo obsolete. Both models are said to utilize the same MEB-Lite architecture and pack rather small traction batteries sized below 45 kWh.

VW will be launching new affordable EVs under Skoda and Seat brands as well, the report states.
