Volkswagen ID.3 becomes Europe’s best-selling EV

The launch of the Volkswagen ID.3 was marred by numerous software-related issues, but when the car did come out, it suddenly garnered everyone’s attention and become a crowd favorite.

In Europe, the electric hatchback pulled ahead of the Renault Zoe and the Hyundai Kona Electric. It also kicked the Tesla Model 3 out of the top 10, despite the fact that Elon Muck’s most affordable sedan briefly boomed in popularity in September.

Buyers are offered nine trim versions to choose from, two power specs (145 and 204 PS) and three battery sizes (48, 62 and 82 kilowatt-hours). The entry-level spec with 330 kilometers of WLTP-rated driving range still hasn’t come out, and the mid-spec €34,112 ID.3 is the cheapest you can get right now. This one uses a 62-kWh battery and offers between 416 and 426 kilometers of range. The topmost one runs between 542 and 549 km on a charge.

Despite the automotive market dropping 7 percent year-over-year, the demand for electrified and all-electric cars skyrocketed 153 percent this October compared to the same month a year ago.
