Magna Steyr celebrates 100,000 G-Class vehicles produced in 3 years

Austria-based Magna Steyr factory has just finished assembling its 400,000th Mercedes-Benz G-Class – and simultaneously its 100,000th in the past three years. The shiny red 400d went to an avid G-wagon fan and collector who already had around two dozen such cars in his garage.

The G-Class was born back in 1979, and it took Mercedes long 38 years to piece together and ship the first 300,000 units. However, the popularity of the model grew, and the last hundred thousand only took three and a half years to sell. The automaker points out that the demand is currently so great, the production capacities don’t match it.

While revealing the anniversary G-Class, the company once again confirmed that the next generation of the iconic SUV would make a switch to pure electric power.
