Toyota Land Cruiser 300 launch date speculated again

Japanese media once again claim they know when Toyota is going to unveil the next-gen Land Cruiser. After several failed predictions, test vehicles still show up on streets from time to time.

Reports are now coming in that Toyota may finally bring the Cruiser 300 into the spotlight on August 1, 2021. Allegedly, the company wants to keep the body-on-frame design of its SUV intact, although most recent cars have switched to using the TNGA unibody platform.

It is also reported that the old 4.6-liter naturally aspirated V8 will make room for a hybrid system based on a 3.5-liter six-cylinder mill rated at 299 PS (295 hp / 220 kW) and 356 Nm (263 lb-ft) of torque. An electric motor will contribute another 180 PS (178 hp / 132 kW). Other possibilities include a V6 TT (V35A-FTS) rated at 415 PS (409 hp / 305 kW) and a 3.3-liter turbo diesel.

The current-gen Toyota Land Cruiser 200 has been on sale for thirteen years now, and received its last update in 2015 (see video for details).
