Genesis implements a face recognition system for its cars

The Korean automaker promises to improve the security and comfort of its vehicles by introducing a combined face/fingerprint authentication system for drivers.

Called Face Control, the feature uses an infrared camera to ensure reliable face detection under all circumstances, even in complete darkness. The memory can hold profiles of a few different people, with an opportunity to re-calibrate them whenever necessary.

Another interesting aspect of this new feature is that it enables drivers to lock their car and leave the key fob inside. This can be useful for swimming and other sports, when you don’t feel like carrying around a waterproof key fob at all times.

Face Control alone only lets you lock and unlock the doors, however. You still have to have your fingerprint scanned in order to start the engine and go. Once the fingerprint is recognized, the car will automatically adjust the seats, the mirrors, the steering wheel and the multimedia system to suit your preferences.

The Genesis GV60 will be the first production car to benefit from this innovative feature, the company claims.
