Wuling Asta is a surprisingly affordable mid-size CUV for China

Wuling has launched its new crossover SUV in China. Named the Asta (previously ‘Xingchen’), the model combines premium features with attractive pricing.

The base trim level starts as low as 69,800 Yuan, while the top spec will set you back 99,800 Yuan or more. At 4,594 mm long, 1,820 mm wide and 1,740 mm tall with 2,750 mm between the axles, the car is comparable to the Toyota RAV4 and the likes. Even on the oversaturated market of China, it looks like rather an appealing option.

A 1.5-liter turbocharged engine links to a manual transmission or CVT and produces 147 PS (145 hp / 108 kW) along with 250 Nm (183 lb-ft) of torque. The drive stays on the front axle, and going from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 10.6 seconds.

The cabin comes wrapped in light-hued leather with fake wood and metal accents throughout. Options include a 10.2-inch infotainment display, digital dashboard, and panoramic sunroof. More details should be revealed soon.
