This GTA Spano is the world’s fastest LEGO model

Spanish automaker Spania GTA and Slovenian company BuWizz have joined efforts to build this 1:8 GTA Spano supercar replica out of Lego bricks. Thanks to having as many as 15 BuWizz motors on board, it can accelerate to 36.5 kilometers per hour (22.7 mph), making it the world’s fastest Lego model.

The team spent half a year perfecting the replica blueprints based on the official Spania GTA documentation. Piecing it together took another ten days and 3,880 parts.

Ten motors are used to propel the vehicle forwards, while five others serve other functions, such as automatic doors, active rear wing, and so on. Five controllers manage the processes, and you can override the automatics whenever necessary using a smartphone app.

According to the companies, building a robust driving axle to withstand continued rotation by multiple electric motors was by far the most challenging part, although designing stiff suspension proved quite tricky, too. A 3D printer was used to print all the wheels.

In fact, the team built not one, but two cars, and gifted one to Spania GTA CEO Domingo Ochoa. He admitted that he was shocked by the sheer level of detail and was determined to keep it as a treasure, not allowing anyone else to even touch it.

The record-breaking run took place on a Formula One racetrack in Valencia. Both the real GTA Spano and its 1:8 representation took part in the race, and the replica led straight off the line until laws of physics kicked in.

You can now order your own Lego model of the GTA Spano for €4,999. Delivery should take around six months.
