The Changan Uni-V iDD is a surprisingly fuel-efficient hybrid for China

According to the details published by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and IT, the Changan Uni-V liftback will soon gain a part-electric version named the iDD, which will only consume 1.59 liters of gas per 100 km (148 U.S. MPG).

The car comes equipped with a powertrain similar to that of the Uni-K iDD that debuted earlier: a single gas engine makes 170 PS (168 hp / 125 kW) and receives assistance from an electric motor.

However, while the Uni-K had only 116 PS (114 hp / 87 kW) of added electric power, the Uni-V enjoys another 170 PS, for a total of 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW). Furthermore, the newcomer features a six-speed triple-clutch transmission, according to the Ministry.

The new Uni-V iDD comes equipped with a rather simple and budget-friendly LFP battery, while the Uni-K SUV benefits from a more modern Li-NMC battery design and has up to 1,100 km (683.5 miles) of hybrid range. It remains to be seen how much range the Uni-V will offer.

The exterior of the liftback stays the same as in the ICE version, but added equipment makes it weigh 280 kg (617 lbs) more, for a total of 1,680 kg (3,704 lbs).

Sales start later this year. Changan has not yet announced any prices, but the gas-powered Uni-V starts from 110,000 Yuan on the domestic market.
