Dodge brings back the manual Challenger, but probably not for long

It looks like the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is once again available with manual transmission. Someone at Carscoops has discovered the corresponding option in the configurator, even though Dodge got rid of the stick shift in late 2021. It looks like yet another way for the manufacturer to say goodbye to the gas-powered muscle car.

The same manual transmission was usually installed on the less powerful Challenger R/T model as well, but the SRT Hellcat – which packs a 6.2-liter V8 boosted to 707 hp – gets it with a reinforced clutch mechanism featuring a larger plate. This is probably done so that the transmission could withstand higher torque. Automatic remains a premium option.

It also appears that the range-topping Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye spec only gets its usual eight-speed automatic gearbox. This is likely because its V8 receives a further boost to 807 hp and can be tricky to control with a manual box.
