Rumor: Nissan may ditch the Titan truck for a small EV alternative

Nissan is considering designing a compact-sized electric pickup for the USA after receiving numerous requests from the local dealerships, Automotive News reports.

The company may also decide to discontinue the large Titan model, since it has failed to provide any serious competition to the U.S. domestic market trucks so far. The dealers seem opposed to this idea, though, according to Automotive News.

Tyler Slade, head of Nissan Brand Consulting, said it would be logical to design an all-electric version of the Frontier light truck still associated with the Japanese marque in the USA as one of its main symbols. The Frontier came 9th in the rating of best-selling cars last year with 76,183 units sold. It came ahead of the Honda Ridgeline, Ford Ranger and Ford Maverick, among others.

At the same time, The Titan failed to make it into the top-15 list of North America’s most popular trucks, coming behind all of its traditional competition from Ford, Chevrolet and Ram, as well as the all-electric Rivian R1T. Despite the poor sales, the dealerships said they would like to keep the model on sale for now because of the profits it brought from maintenance, accessory and part sales, and corporate contracts.
