Tesla signs an agreement letting Ford use its Supercharger network

Ford is the first major automaker to agree to charge its future EVs from Tesla Supercharger stations, which involves switching to its rival and industry leader’s charger standards.

Per Reuters, the two companies have signed an agreement providing Ford EV drivers with access to over 12,000 Supercharger outlets in North America. In turn, Tesla expects benefits from the U.S. Government that are normally provided to companies investing in infrastructural development.

Following the announcement, the stock of both corporations rose in value considerably.

Starting next year, all electric cars manufactured by Ford will come equipped with a Combined Charging System (CCS) connector adapted to the network using a Tesla-designed custom adapter. The device will be compatible with all latest-gen (V3) stations and support charging powers up to 250 kW. From 2025, Ford will be equipping all of its new cars with Tesla-standard plugs, eliminating the need for adapters.
