Watch the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT rip up the North Loop

Shortly after introducing the formidable Taycan Turbo GT, the Stuttgart automaker has posted a video on YouTube documenting the electric sedan’s victorious Nürburgring run. The new lap record was announced at the beginning of the year, but never shown in a video. Porsche has also confirmed that the car was wearing the optional Weissach package to the track.

Piloted by in-house test driver Lars Kern, the car completed the entire 20.8-kilometer (12.9-mile) long Nordschleife in 7 minutes 7.55 seconds. For a bit of perspective, the Taycan Turbo S managed the same feat in 7:33.35. It quickly got dethroned by the Tesla Model S Plaid (7:25.231), but the Tesla lost its crown as soon as the Turbo GT hit the track.

The record is decidedly impressive and falls just a little short of the absolute best lap time among production EVs. That title still belongs to the Rimac Nevera with its 1,914 PS (1,888 hp / 1,408 kW). The Nevera hit the North Loop last summer and finished in 7:5.298.

On a more positive note, the Taycan Turbo GT ranks 7th in the overall rating of vehicles that have ever attempted the Nürburgring. The next line down the list belongs to the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 with 7:9.3.
