Hyundai Tucson gets some beauty surgery in the States

Hyundai has unveiled the 2025 Tucson SUV facelift at the ongoing New York International Auto Show (NYIAS-2024). The car looks much like its South Korean counterpart revealed in December.

Starting from the technical side of things, the hybrids have received the most attention this time around. The mild Tuscon Hybrid now gets 65 horsepower from its e-motor built into the 6AT instead of 60. The plug-in hybrid version is also better off with 97 hp instead of 90. As a result, the HEV now churns out 234 PS (231 hp / 172 kW) and the PHEV manages 271 PS (268 hp / 200 kW).

Both models send their torque to all four wheels. The 1.6-liter turbocharged engine in the hybrid system continues to deliver its usual 180 PS (178 hp / 132 kW) and the batteries are still rated at 1.49 and 13.84 kilowatt-hours, respectively.

Both electrified Tucsons now benefit from multiple regenerative brake modes and a new drive preset called Baby Mode making the car start very smoothly. Another preset, Green Zone, can be used to drive in urban areas with low emission requirements.

The dealerships in the USA will receive the new Tucson hybrids at the end of the summer, Hyundai says.

The 2.5-liter petrol version of the SUV is set to arrive sooner – in June. It is still rated at 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW) and 241 Nm (178 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is always eight-speed automatic, but you can choose between FWD and AWD.

Like its South Korean relative, the 2025 Tucson for the USA received updated bumpers at both ends, headlights and a fresh radiator grille pattern. The interior has been reworked quite a bit, too, with new 12.3-inch displays used for both the digital dashboard and the infotainment system. The latter now supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connections. A heads-up display is optional. Driver drowsiness alert complements the list of electronic aids.

The sporty N Line trim and the rugged-looking XRT are still available, too.
